How Much Power Can a Battery Store?
Installing a solar battery can be a great way to get the most value out of your existing solar system. Batteries are a great source of backup power, they can make you much less dependent on the utility grid, and, in some cases, batteries can also save you more money on your electricity bill. If you live in an area that experiences regular blackouts or somewhere with time-of-use utility rates, having a battery backup could be the best option for your home or business. How Powerful is My Battery?
Batteries are the next important step toward a truly green future. The ability to store a clean, renewable energy source such as solar for several hours of continuous use after it’s collected is one of the most impressive advancements green energy has seen to date.
Did you know you can choose how much power your battery uses? A megawatt-hour (MWh) is the amount of energy a battery can store. For example, if your home required a 240 MWh lithium-ion battery with a maximum capacity of 60 MW. When the battery is fully charged, you can run the battery at maximum power for 4 hours (turning every light on, running all your appliances at once, etc.), or you can choose to run the battery at half power for 8 hours. How you use the power you’ve stored is completely up to you!
What Happens If the Power Goes Out in My Neighborhood?
It’s pretty simple, actually: Your neighbors without a solar system paired with battery storage will lose power, but you won’t. Currently, the battery storage Renova Energy installs can power a home for up to 10 hours following an outage.
